Structured Strongman Training Session Highlights: 28 March 2009 - Atlas Stones Simulation and Sandbag Races

ATLAS STONES SIMULATION

The Atlas Stones is a popular event in strongman contests. It can be contested in two ways-loading a series of stones of increasing weight onto platforms or loading just one stone over a certain height for reps. Even if you are not aiming to compete, you can take advantage of Atlas Stones Training as they are an excellent tool to improve your strength and conditioning. Muscle groups hit during this lift include the posterior chain, upper back, even arms and grip. If you perform this lift for a few rounds, you can bet you will be pretty winded if you are not well conditioned.

At Team Iron Behemoths' training base, we have the equipment to simulate almost all the popular Strongman events. And from our experimentaion concerning Atlas Stones training, we realize that sandbags make a good if not a harder alternative. Currently, we have sandbags in three denominations, 40kg, 60kg, 80kg. Heavier loads of up to 120kg are on the way as our members are finding even the 80kg load increasingly easier by the session.

In our Strongman Spotlight today is one of our older members Ho who joined us only 2 months ago. At 41 years, Ho showed that age is hardly a gauge of physical excellence. He totally dominated the two events today with timings which are virtually unassailable. Ho is not only strong but he is also affable and encouraging as well. Ho is always cheering other members as they strain to finish the lift. Not only that, he often provides valuable nuggets of training tips to our young members. All in all, we are most happy to have Ho aboard. We are sure that his wealth of experience in training and more importantly in Life will contribute towards the betterment of all Behemoths, both physically and socially.
