Team Iron Behemoths Strongman Smackdown

On 24/01/09, Team Iron Behemoths held its inaugural Strongman Smackdown at Hong Lim Park. A little bit of History in the making as this was the first privately organised Strongman competition in Singapore. It was similar to the HometeamNS ones which we have come to love. The team would like to thank all sponsors and participants for making this event possible.

It's time to get the party started!

The Hulk and The King, who organised the event, taking a day off from training to have fun. Of course we were not going to compete here - what would it look like if we had won our own prizes?
Psyche!

Now, let the games begin.......

The competitors showed pure grit, sweating it out in an attempt to prove they were the strongest around. They battled it out in three different events: the 250kg Tyre Flip, the 240kg Sled Pull, and the 100kg Farmer's Walk (check out our previous post for contest rules and details).

Those who took part knew what the stakes were (no, it's not just the attractive prizes we had for them). Everyone was there to survey their competition. More importantly, they knew that whoever won the Strongman Smackdown would go into the upcoming HomeTeamNS Strongman Challenge with a mental edge over other competitors - and that's something money can't buy.

From the Czech Republic, standing at 2 meters and weighing in at 120kg, he is Zdenek Prochazka, a.k.a. Nick.

Here is Yusri Bin Ali, the 2007 Strongman Champion, as he flips the 250 kg tyre easily.

Not to be outdone, Kevin completes the tyre flip fearlessly.

The Orient Express - Impressive Mr Yoshida-San shows us the meaning of 'Speed' ain't just Takako, Hiroko, Eriko & Hitoe.

Spencer shows us what he's made of. Well done!

Boey brings it!

Vinod does at the horizontal hustle. He's good at it too!

Easy peasy.
Banzai!
With his girlfriend watching on, Anand shows he's a match for anybody!
Where's his other leg?

Man Yu gets this without dropping.

Congratulations to ALL PARTICIPANTS who tried and completed the events.

It took a fair bit of gumption even to sign up, let alone show up and compete.

A lot more registered for it and said they will be there.

They weren't. You were.

And for that Team Iron Behemoths salute you.

You are STRONGER for it now!

And now, while we tabulate the results, we give you the Jonas Tam Show.

Strutting in.

Our Guest-of-Honour for the day, Jonas Tam, poses with the ladies.

He then puts on a little preview of what we'll being seeing at the upcoming National Bodybuilding Championships with some mind blowing poses!

Three Cheers for Everyone! No one left empty handed. Samples from NUTRIFIRST along with Flyers from RED ARMY WATCHES, ADVENTURE 21, HOG's BREATH CAFE and HOMETEAM NS were given out. Team Iron Behemoths would like to thank our sponsors again. Click on the boxes to your left to view their sites.

Drum roll please..........Presenting our Top 3!

Behemoth member, Hiroshi Yoshida, comes in a respectable 3rd.

Yusri comes in a close 2nd - you can bet he'll be looking to avenge this loss at the upcoming Strongman Challenge.

And finally, our first STRONGMAN SMACKDOWN WINNER -Zdenek Prochazka!

Who also happened to win the Lucky Draw Prize of a 5lbs Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein from Nutrifirst. Well done, Sir!

For the rest............the pic says it all

"Damn, I got to come for more sessions to get myself stronger!"

But apart from physical prowess-

Strength in our growing our community is also one of our mission statements.

Fostering strong ties between like-minded fitness groups and gym enthusiasts, including future strongmen, such as Shaiful's son here, is something we are really thankful about.

Bringing so many people of various nationalites and races together, veteran or newbie, through our strongman sessions, is our greatest pride.

Some come to learn. Some to share. All get to participate and are stronger for it!

Kudos to all who had the courage to compete. All of you will definitely have an edge going into Strongman 2009. Come Sunday, February 22, there can be no excuses, no choking, no chickening-out.

This time, however, the Behemoths will be out in full force. What will happen then? Who will emerge as Singapore's Strongest Man?

It's not too late to have some vital hands on training with our customised Strongman Equipment before the contest. Any practice you can get will translate to a better placing at this year's HometeamNS nationals. Come take advantage of our 'first session free' offer.
