Structured Strongman Training Session Highlights: 27 Jun 2009 - Strongman Vehicle Pull and Powerlifting Club Squats

At Team Iron Behemoths, our aim is to promote the sport of Strongman to the masses. To bring the challenge to everyday people. But, with a good mind for safety. Not every one is going to pull a big truck or a fire engine on thier first attempt. That's an invitation for injury.

All along we have catered to our members by providing them a similar Strongman experience of testing their strength in the various competition events - but with adjustable difficulty levels. They strive to match our intensity and gumption but at a weight that they can safely push themselves with. Step by step, we get them stronger to rise to bigger challenges.

With the Vehicle Pull, it is no different. We have Glen and Ted graduating from light sled pulling,( http://teamironbehemoths-members.blogspot.com/2009/05/structured-strongman-training-session_23.html%20%29)
to reeling in an actual vehicle - our mini van!

The Strongman Spotlight is theirs today!

Glen pulls the van, arm over arm ,across 20m. A first time experience for him!

We congratlated him after this feat and asked him how did he feel about his improvement in strength. He sent in this testimonial-

"I've watched some WSM competition videos on the internet, and I thought it was very interesting. I have been very interested in Strength training 3 years ago, I've learnt Powerlifting, olympic lifting, bodybuilding and a bit of gymnastics. I thought there isn't really a community in Singapore that trains Strongman... Until I stumbled upon Team Iron Behemoth's blog on Google. I found out more about the Strongman scene in Singapore, I thought it will be cool to join them for some training. Its something new and interesting. After 6 months of training, I saw significant improvement in Strength. Although I'm in NS, I'd never thought my strength would improve during my 2 years in NS due to all the Army training. I've learnt a lot of tips on Strength training, such as the proper form and techniques for lifting. Many of which I didn't know at all. I think Strongman is a really good sport for those who wants to get stronger, fitter naturally. Through Strongman, the body and mind gets tougher in a much different way unlike in a gym." - Glen Poh Jun Kai, Age 20

Ted matches up to his training partner and good friend.

He wrote in to us too -

"I am glad to be part of Team Iron Behemoths, as I get a chance to improve even further and learn from the bigger guys with much more knowledge as well as experience. Strongman had been a stepping stone for me to "UP" my strength attribute as well as endurance, I found strongman to be a complete balanced sport comparing to weight lifting which just focus more on raw strength. My grip strength has improved alot from tyre flip, farmer's walk, dead lift etc. My past six months in strongman had been a unique experience for me. Thank you for everything! :)" - Ted, 21

Angelina merits a mention too this week - Here she is (wo)manhandling the vehicle!

Oh, they got to push the van back too. Quite the kick!

But something nobody is surprised The Hulk can do!

Powerlifting Club - Squats

Front Squats was the order of the day.

Van sharing a vital tip on using the stretch reflex of the adductors to power the lift. Seen here using the towel to illustrate that point and not for other dubious purposes.

The members get to put their newfound knowledge into practice under our watchful eyes.

We got your back.
