Strongman 2009 Qualifiers

Ladies and Gentleman, presenting your finalists for Strongman 2009.

TWO HOURS BEFORE (the above photo was taken),

Behemoths lurking everywhere.
Being briefed by Sean on the contest regulations.

TWO HOURS AFTER,

Party time! Four Behemoths in sitting in a row while drawing our sequence number for the Finals.

At 2m tall and 120kg, Nick is also very much along for the ride in the finals.

The Rock goes for the pin. But The Hulk gets his leg to the 'rope'.

No referee to enforce the rules this time
but you can't keep a good man down.
Clowning around with our Abang, and fellow strongman veteran - Yusri!

This could easily have been a Top 10 Profile Shot.

How many people are happy we bribed Jonas not to compete here?

ARE YOU READY?

-Commendable Member Mentions-

Well done Ryan! You are among the country's strongest!

Ryan valiantly gets the tyre moving and making history in the process. At 17, he is the competition's youngest ever contestant. His impressive 36th placing is only the start for this go-getter.

Anand Daniel is one tough cookie. We salute you.

Having trained hard for the contest,Anand came into the competition brimming with confidence. He was doing well initially during the tire flip event until the tire accidentally injured his leg forcing him to withdraw from the meet. It was an absolutely heart wrenching experience for the young man having come so far.Surprisingly,Anand still wanted to try out the other events after he was patched up at the medical centre. This attests to the success of our attempts to inculcate values such as fighting spirit and the never say die attitude in our members. We are sure you will fulfill your Destiny next year,Anand!

The 4.2-tonne SCDF Red Rhino Pull.

After a whole year of training hard, eating his vitamins and saying his prayers, Keith has made it to the Finals of the HomeTeamNS Strongman Challenge 2009!

His inspiring jump from Top 25th Strongest to 11th makes Ben the most improved Behemoth!

No case of Deja Vu here.
A year ago, as some might recall, the 100kg-a-side logs undid Ben's bid for the finals. His torn callouses forced him to retire from the event.
What a difference a year makes.
Especially a year of Structured Strongman Training at our Behemoths lair.

Fancy a flutter on him making the Top 10 next year? Do it now while the odds are still good.

Will YOU be here next year?

Structured Strongman Session Highlights: 14 Feb 2009 - Double the Damage

Farmer’s Walks and Tyre Flips

The last DOUBLE -DOSED structured training session before the Qualifiers witnessed many of our members breaking new ground in their quest for physical advancement. Indeed, many Behemoths are arguably peaking at just the right time to tackle the Big Day.

Farmer’s Walks

The farmer’s walk segment of the session was dominated by Van The Man. He made walking with 110kg in each hand for 15 metres look like a walk in the park (pun intended) with a personal best timing of 9.5 seconds.

Our latest member of the Behemoth family, the affable and helpful Ho, in only his second session with us, persevered to complete 10 metres with 110kg. We are sure that with more training sessions under his belt, Ho’s potential for physical perfection will be finally utilized.

Another Personal Record was set by our Japanese export, Hyoshida. The big man epitomized the Japanese byword for efficiency and speed by making 100kg look like a breeze with a timing of barely 12 seconds.

The younger members were no crouches in the farmer’s walk either. Kevin, one of our newer members finally managed to complete a full 90kg pass. The fact that he dropped the implements a few times and then gritted his teeth to continue with the walk attested to his intestinal fortitude-a desirable attribute which we hope to inculcate in all our members.

In the same vein, wunderkid Glenn in spite of his low bodyweight managed to make a 10m pass with 90kg. Bearing in mind that he could barely do 70kg when he first came, you have to hand it to this young man with a big heart!

Hence the Commendable Mention for this week belongs to Glen!

Tyre Flips

The tyre flip segment was a fitting finale to an intense training session. All members hit new heights in their personal battles against tyre. For instance, Glenn and Wei Liang surpassed their previous best.

Jonathan Boey also hit a rep PR when he flipped the tyre a record 25 times! Every other member present that day such as Kevin, Hyoshida and Ho also recorded their best ever timings.

With the Strongman Qualifiers barely a week away, it is clear that our members are in the best shapes ever. We are sure that all of them will put up a good show come the event.

*APOLOGIES FOR THE ABSENCE OF PICS THIS ROUND - WE WERE ALL SERIOUS BUSINESS AT THIS FINAL SESSION BEFORE THE QUALIFIERS.

Structured Strongman Session Highlights: 07 Feb 2009 - Sled Pulls

With the HomeTeamNS Strongman Challenge just two short weeks away, our members are more competitive than ever.

Everyone is raising their game and decreasing their timings on the various implements.

This past week's sled session was no different.

One of our youngest members, Ryan, flying with the 240kg sled. This guy has sure come a long way. Keep it up!

Van setting the day's record for the 240kg sled pull, completing 20 meters in 10 seconds!

Yoshida pulls over 300kg. Impressive!

And finally, today's Commendable Mention: Lee. Lee has been rapidly improving; this week, he pulled the 240kg sled in a personal best time of 23 seconds, and even managed to flip the tyre on his own for 10 flips, in a pretty decent time of 2 minutes. Well done!

Structured Strongman Session Highlights: 31 Jan 2009 - Tyre Flips

Coming off a very competitive Strongman Smackdown, the Team Iron Behemoths members all had something to prove during this week's tyre flip session.

Members who competed in Strongman Smackdown all bettered their timings; for those who did not show up, it was about redemption.

Weixian flips a very decent 01:21:96

Today's Commendable Mention, Wei Liang and Glen, who flipped the tyre in respective personal best times of 00:50:26 and 00: 43:08. Impressive!
