&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Not the kind with sugar coated rainbow sprinkles though. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;Our 100% pure sun baked metal cookies are coated with a thin layer of tasteless, inedible rubber and weigh 2okg a piece!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;Still, we can't stop having more by the week at our Powerlifting Club!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;The delectable term first came about in a Bench session between a former American UN Peacekeeper and The HULK back in the year 2000.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Oddly enough, the gunslinger was now a language lecturer and the HULK was still a student, still a Bruce Banner burying himself in books.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;While piling on the plates for a final 160kg set, out of Stephen Ryan came the immortal words, &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;"Doesn't that 20kg plate look like a giant cookie to you?"&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Samuel "The Student" Lim concured.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;And the rest is local Powerlifting history! I was steadily hitting 150kg to 160kg back in the past, but that was my plateau. Just recently, with the encouragement from everyone and the advice given to correct my form, I've successfully hit a deadlift PB of 180kg! Strongman training was a whole new level compared to conventional gym lifts such as the "Big 3" or HIIT. It seemed to combine everything together, and got my heart pumping pretty hard (Which is a good thing). Throughout the session, I can feel the blood rushing through my veins, and the constant cheerings from everyone spurred me only to work harder. I flipped the 200kg tire for 10 reps and managed to flip the 300kg tire at least once for a rep.I felt proud with my performance. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Then later, suprisingly, i pulled a impossible 130kg deadlift for 1 rep max surpassing my previous 120kg.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The guys there were very motivating and they encouraged me. The weather was once again stifling with the sweltering heat threatening to dampen the mood. In spite of the less than conducive weather conditions, our members were able to step up a gear and put in better performances during the session. Those who came beat the weather and busted their PRs. Although it was a PR attempt for the 17 year old school sprinter, the fluid manner in which he executed the pass belied its difficulty. Well done Zhan Wei! In the same vein, the veteran Yoshida did several sets of over 100kg rather effortlessly. Indeed he exemplifies the concept of having brawn together with brains perfectly. He is here to sample strongman training and he tried his hand at Abigail the tire. In spite of having zilch experience in tire flipping, he managed to nail Abigail-a testament to his raw unadulterated strength!&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;Deadlifts was next on the card. We introduced him to the hook grip for the first time and left no detail uncovered. Thereafter, Damian provided feedback that it is the most secure grip he ever felt. Not surprisingly, the big man from Down Under attained his previous PR of 210kg (which was performed with straps) using the hook grip. Indeed, many Behemoths are arguably peaking at just the right time to tackle the Big Day.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Farmer’s Walks&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The farmer’s walk segment of the session was dominated by Van The Man. He made walking with 110kg in each hand for 15 metres look like a walk in the park (pun intended) with a personal best timing of 9.5 seconds.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Our latest member of the Behemoth family, the affable and helpful Ho, in only his second session with us, persevered to complete 10 metres with 110kg. We are sure that with more training sessions under his belt, Ho’s potential for physical perfection will be finally utilized.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Another Personal Record was set by our Japanese export, Hyoshida. The big man epitomized the Japanese byword for efficiency and speed by making 100kg look like a breeze with a timing of barely 12 seconds.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The younger members were no crouches in the farmer’s walk either. Kevin, one of our newer members finally managed to complete a full 90kg pass. The fact that he dropped the implements a few times and then gritted his teeth to continue with the walk attested to his intestinal fortitude-a desirable attribute which we hope to inculcate in all our members.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the same vein, wunderkid Glenn in spite of his low bodyweight managed to make a 10m pass with 90kg. Bearing in mind that he could barely do 70kg when he first came, you have to hand it to this young man with a big heart!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hence the Commendable Mention for this week belongs to Glen!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tyre Flips&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The tyre flip segment was a fitting finale to an intense training session. All members hit new heights in their personal battles against tyre. For instance, Glenn and Wei Liang surpassed their previous best.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Jonathan Boey also hit a rep PR when he flipped the tyre a record 25 times! Every other member present that day such as Kevin, Hyoshida and Ho also recorded their best ever timings.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;With the Strongman Qualifiers barely a week away, it is clear that our members are in the best shapes ever. It can be contested in two ways-loading a series of stones of increasing weight onto platforms or loading just one stone over a certain height for reps. Even if you are not aiming to compete, you can take advantage of Atlas Stones Training as they are an excellent tool to improve your strength and conditioning. Muscle groups hit during this lift include the posterior chain, upper back, even arms and grip. If you perform this lift for a few rounds, you can bet you will be pretty winded if you are not well conditioned.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At Team Iron Behemoths' training base, we have the equipment to simulate almost all the popular Strongman events. And from our experimentaion concerning Atlas Stones training, we realize that sandbags make a good if not a harder alternative. Currently, we have sandbags in three denominations, 40kg, 60kg, 80kg. Because of the difficulty in gripping the weights, previous bests decreased by around 10kg and there were a few drops during the walks, nevertheless, our members did not complain and persevered through their sets.&lt;br /&gt;Bryan, a freelance personal trainer, broke his farmer’s walk cherry with sets of 80kg and 90kg-a great achievement for a first timer. Indeed, at the end of the session, he said this event is arguably the hardest one he has ever done and likes it!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yoshida having more experience with the implements also had to grit his teeth in order to complete multiple sets of 90kg.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Static Holds&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;With their grip already bombed out, our members then proceeded to finish the session with static holds using the same equipment.
